Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an in-person training that shows participants how to help people who have a mental illness, are struggling with substance abuse, have a disability or are in crisis. MHFA training is open to law enforcement, youth agencies, civic groups, faith organizations, or any individual wanting to participate. The 8-hour course teaches risk factors, warning signs and symptoms for different types of mental health issues. Participants are given an overview of common support and treatment resources as well as a five-step action plan for interacting with a person in crisis.
